Equine Bill of Sale: What Every Contract Must Include

A handshake is not a horse sale. A one page bill of sale protects both parties and costs nothing to write.

Identify the horse beyond doubt

Registered name, barn name, breed, age, colour, markings, microchip number and registration papers. "One bay gelding" has lost more disputes than any other phrase in equine law.

Spell out the money

  • Total price, deposit amount and the balance due date.

  • Who pays for transport, and when risk passes to the buyer.

  • What happens to the deposit if the PPE findings end the sale.

The contract you never needed is the one that was written properly.
